What is Environmental Art?
Environmental art is artwork that aims to represent the environment and bring attention to current environmental issues that our planet is facing. Environmental artists use their art to inform the public and send a message about the devastation of human impacts on the environment. A movement that began in the 1960’s, environmental aesthetics have had an important role in the rapid spread of environmental activism (Brady & Prior, 2020).
Using environmental aesthetics in scientific development is a great way to get the public engaged and in support of new environmental initiatives (Simus, 2014). In the doom and gloom that can surround these conversations, many people turn their heads, and I am hoping to convey a more positive and hopeful message into these spaces.
My goal is to support environmental remediation in as many ways that I can with art.
My art materials are largely composed of trash cleaned from a variety of ecosystems, "lost things", upcycled and second hand supplies, and natural renewable materials. The sale of my art not only monetizes cleanup efforts, but it also helps to fund further research and design.
In the end, though, making art is an extremely personal experience, and my art reflects my own emotional journey. I have found a lot of healing by centering myself in my environment and grounding myself, and I want that positive experience to show in my work.
Organic Exhibits
By using natural materials, I have designed art that can uplift, integrate, and rehabilitate the environment that it exists in. To learn about these up and coming projects, check out my Organic Exhibits page.
